Description:
This is a cotton nightdress edged in broderie anglaise ('English embroidery'). It is an example of whitework, in which the embroidery thread is the same colour as the fabric. The initials 'SC' are embroidered in red at the base of the neckline, probably in reference to Saturnina Clemencot (Liverpool, 1882 - Formby, 1881). Could this have been part of Saturnina's trousseau for her marriage to Doroteo Vicente Elordieta in 1908?
